Dream about studying in Norway came true for Siam Kibria from Bangladesh. After the master he is starting an internship at United Nations Global Compact Norway.
1. Why did you choose a master's in social economics at NMBU?
From my teenage years, I've had the desire to visit Norway and witness its breathtaking natural landscapes. As a nature enthusiast, I'm always thinking about ways to help preserve the environment, combat climate change, and protect the planet's natural wonders. After completing my Bachelor's degree in Economics, I decided to shift my focus to studying sustainability, climate, and environmental studies. During my search for relevant programs, I discovered the Norwegian University of Life Sciences - a stunning university located amidst nature. Right then, I knew this was the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my passion, so I applied. Thankfully, I was accepted and I ended up taking my Master's in Applied Economics and Sustainability.
NMBU is a unique educational institution that allows students to customize their study program by offering a variety of courses. The faculty, course coordinators, and all other members of the university community are welcoming and supportive, making it easy for students to thrive. 2. How do you feel the relevance of this master's degree in your future job?
Courses in my Master's program have transformed me not just as a student but as a person. I gained expertise in Data Analytics, Climate and Energy Economics, Environmental Management, Sustainability Reporting, and Valuation of goods. In today's world, it is crucial to have knowledge in these areas as we strive to make everyone responsible for their business practices and emissions. I believe that the skills I acquired in my studies will aid me in succeeding in future job opportunities.
