The NMBU Sustainable Food Systems Arena's Master Stipend

The NMBU Sustainable Food Systems Arena offers two master’s stipends each semester.
Submit your application before the 5th of March, 2025!

About the stipend

Funds are awarded to master’s projects related to the sustainable transformation of food systems, both locally and/or globally.

The arena will be awarding two stipends this semester, and students can apply for up to 10,000 NOK per master’s thesis.

The stipend can cover:

  • Travel expenses
  • Accommodation expenses (food not included)
  • Research expenses (e.g., hiring a translator)
  • Equipment expenses
  • Course and conference fees
  • Other expenses (for example, a stipend for publishing an MSc thesis—either a review article or popular science piece—during or after grading)

How to apply

Master’s students can apply twice a year. The deadline for this semester is October 25th.
Applications can be submitted in either English or Norwegian.

The application should include:

  • Name, study program, department, and faculty of the student (or students if writing a joint MSc thesis)
  • Name of the supervisor
  • A short summary of the MSc thesis and why you are applying for this specific stipend
  • An overview of estimated costs, specified as much as possible

What happens after I applied for the stipend?

Students will be notified within 4 weeks after the application deadline regarding whether their application was approved and what amount the arena will cover. Students must present expenses (receipts) to receive the stipend. If the student receives another stipend from NMBU, this must be disclosed, as stipends cannot be awarded for the same expenses.

For further questions, contact the arena’s coordinator, Caroline Karlsson.
