Objectives
The overall aim of the project is to develop knowledge and tools to improve dairy cow fertility, through genetics and management, and thereby improve animal welfare, performance and herd profitability. Objectives:
- Detect risk factors associated with embryo loss and when it occurs in NR. Special focus will be on genetic markers and the sire effect on embryo loss in NR.
- Determine prevalence of subclinical endometritis in slaughtered cows and investigate factors associated with the disease in NR cows.
- Detect mildly deleterious recessive genotypes affecting cow fertility.
- Develop appropriate selection- and mating strategies that can be used to control frequency of deleterious haplotypes in the breeding programs.
- Examine how data from activity tags can improve phenotyping of fertility.
