The aim of the project is to increase the understanding of the fate of radionuclides in connection to arthropod driven ecosystem processes. The project will build on previous work, documenting arthropod communities at Chernobyl to examine levels of the long-lived and bioavailable radiocaesium and radiostrontium in functional feeding groups.

Laboratory experiments will be carried out at the Isotope laboratory to investigate the transfer and fate of radiocaesium and radiostrontium through multi-trophic grazing food chains and detrital food chains. The project will help to gain more knowledge on processes involved in radionuclide cycling and provide better understanding on possible radionuclide transfer pathways.
