About the project
The project aims to summarize research-based knowledge on sustainable feed for farm animals in Norway, from research over the past seven years. One of the goals is to identify knowledge gaps that can form the basis for further research and innovation to achieve a more sustainable feed system in Norway.
A careful definition of sustainability is essential to the project. This involves assessing feed ingredients based on a range of indicators such as environmental impact, social conditions, economics, food safety and ethics. We also look at how the animals respond to the feed and evaluate the entire livestock production system to ensure it meets the goals of Norwegian agricultural and food policy, as well as our environmental and climate commitments.
In order to get a complete overview of the research on sustainable feed, the project will conduct extensive literature search in relevant databases to find all available literature on the topic. By discussing the findings with researchers and relevant stakeholders from government and industry, we can identify where knowledge is still lacking. The result will be a summary of the status of the research and suggestions for further research priorities.
