The Neighborhood – a Knowledge-based Game about Land Consolidation

Abstract

This is a knowledge-based game about land consolidation. The game and the questions are primarily related to the provisions of the Norwegian Land Consolidation Act in Chapters 1 through 5. The questions have varying levels of difficulty: easy, medium, and difficult. The game is best suited for use toward the end of the semester, as it assumes a certain level of knowledge about land consolidation. The game and the questions are based on the Land Consolidation Act adopted in 2013, which entered into force on 1 January 2016. We believe that land consolidation can be learned in many different ways, but the greatest learning outcome is achieved by combining several different teaching methods. The aim of the game is to help students become as proficient as possible in land consolidation law. SITRAP – the Centre for Integrated and Transdisciplinary Teaching in Planning at NMBU – has been a valuable supporter in the finalization of the game. It is also through SITRAP that we have drawn inspiration to develop alternative teaching methods. The Norwegian Courts Administration and SITRAP have provided financial support for the project.
