About the section

Our central research areas are feed evaluation and optimization, feed technology, development and utilization of new feeds, sustainable utilization of national feed resources, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, microbiota, product quality, as well as indoor and grazing management systems.

We offer research-based teaching in ruminant nutrition, physiology, feed production, pasture systems, milk and meat production, production diseases.

The section uses state-of-the-art research infrastructure to carry out innovative research and teaching. The most important research infrastructure for the group is the Metabolism department where we carry out in vivo, in vitro and in sacco experiments. The Livestock Production Research Centre and the Center for Feed Technology supply infrastructure for production trials with ruminants and the production of specific concentrate types for trials, respectively.

• Teaching

  The teaching focuses on ruminants (cattle, sheep and goats) and includes feed evaluation and optimisation, feed technology, development and utilisation of new feeds, sustainable utilisation of national feed resources, reduction of enteric methane emissions, the interaction between nutrition and microbiota, product quality and management both indoors and on pasture.

  We offer courses in nutrition, physiology, ruminant feeds, feed production and feed evaluation, grazing, and production in cattle and small ruminants. We also offer more specialised courses in ruminant nutrition, feed ration optimisation and laboratory animal science. The group also offers courses in academic writing and PhD courses in nutritional physiology. We focus on research-based and student-active teaching, and several of the courses include case-based exercises, animal experiments and laboratory experiments.

  We also supervise many bachelor and master students often integrated in research projects involving practical animal experiments. Through our close collaboration with the industry, there are excellent opportunities for internships and bachelor's and master's theses in relevant areas.
