Our Units

In our fish facility you can study two model fish species (zebrafish and the Japanese medaka),
as well as aquaculture species, such as Atlantic salmon and trout.

Model Fish Unit

Our unit specializes in two of the most prominent model organisms in scientific research: the zebrafish (Danio rerio), renowned for its contributions to vertebrate development studies, and the Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes), valued for its unique tolerance to saline water and genotypic sex determination. Together, these species provide a robust foundation for advanced research in vertebrate biology.

Salmon Unit

The Atlantic salmon is an iconic species in Our unit is dedicated to the study of two key species in aquaculture and conservation: the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), known for its complex life cycle spanning rivers and oceans, and the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), a globally introduced species prized in recreational fishing and aquaculture. These species are essential for research in aquatic ecology and sustainable fisheries.
