Call for papers: 6th World Bank/IFS/ODI Public Finance Conference

Together with the World Bank Group, the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), ODI, TaxDev, UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and UK Aid, Skatteforsk is organizing the 6th World Bank Public Finance Conference. The conference will be held online and in person in Washington DC, September 26-27, 2024. Deadline for submissions is April 15th

The theme of this year's conference is "Driving progress: Public Finance and Structural Transformation". Paper submissions from both macro and micro perspectives that relate to the conference theme and inform policy design in low and middle-income countries, which includes the following topics:

  • Tax policies suitable for lower-income countries on a growth trajectory
  • Fiscal policy aimed at promoting structural transformation, including industrial policy
  • Fiscal and Labor market policies addressing high informality/promoting rapid formalization
  • Design of government pensions systems in low and middle-income countries
  • Unemployment insurance design in lower-income countries, and the transformation of unemployment systems along the development path

The keynote address will be held by Chang Tai Hsieh, Phyllis and Irwin Winkelreid Professor of Economics, University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

Submissions: We are particularly keen to feature work by researchers from or based in developing countries, and by other under-represented groups. Submissions by early career researchers and PhD students are also welcomed. We invite you to submit a paper here by April 15, 2024.
