Soil and water scienes
MINA's section for soil and water sciences has leading national expertise in soil science, water science and geological processes, from small scale to catchment areas and lakes, as well as in different time periods.

In order to contribute to solving challenges related to environmental and climate change, as well as achieving sustainable plant production, society has a great need for research and teaching in the field of sustainable use of land resources, processes in soil and water systems, as well as the development of nature- and cycle-based solutions. MINA's section for soil and water science has a leading national expertise in soil science, water science and geological processes, from small scale to catchment areas and lakes, as well as in different time periods.
Our researchers cover georesources in the landscape, water hydrology and the transport of substances and heat through the soil to groundwater, rivers and lakes. Soil as an ecosystem and its physical and chemical significance as a climate-regulating, growing and purifying medium are central to the section's activities.
Research and teaching cover arctic, temperate and tropical systems, from alpine to lowland areas. The section has field and laboratory instrumentation led by personnel with high laboratory expertise which enables physical and biogeochemical process studies in natural and green production systems.
EarthresQue - a Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) funded by the Research Council of Norway. The centre will develop technologies and systems for sustainable handling and treatment of waste and surplus masses.
