I am a professor of ecology and Head of Section for Ecology and Natural Resource Management (Section for ecology and natural resource management | NMBU). I have a special interest in plant-animal interactions, conservation biology and human-wildlife interactions. A substantial amount of my work has been in tropical areas where I have studied how animals, ranging from termites to elephants, affect the structure and function of savanna ecosystems. I have worked in Botswana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe as well as Nepal and Thailand. In Norway, I have studied effects of reindeer and red deer herbivory. More recently, we have started a project where we study the effects of a marine protected area on the lobster population dynamics in the Oslo Fjord.
