Dag Einar Sommervoll is a Norwegian economist at the School of Economics and Business. His research spans urban and housing economics, econometrics, and applied microeconomics, with additional interests in behavioral decision theory, environmental economics, health economics, and search theory. He has contributed to understanding housing market dynamics, discrimination in rental markets, and advanced quantitative methods in economic analysis.
Sommervoll earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics (specialising in algebraic geometry) from the University of Oslo in 1997, reflecting a strong formal foundation in mathematics before transitioning to economics. Following his doctorate, he held postdoctoral positions at the Mittag-Leffler Institute in Stockholm and the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Brazil. This interdisciplinary trajectory underpins his methodological fluency in both theoretical and empirical research.
Beyond academic articles, Sommervoll has authored and co-authored textbooks and popular works, including Mattespettboka, Matematikk for økonomifag, and Hjernespenst, reflecting a commitment to pedagogy and broader intellectual engagement.
