Om dette emnet
Sensors are fundamental in all kinds of application areas, including industrial robotics, healthcare, automotive, and consumer-level electronics. The purpose of this course is to provide a practical introduction to sensor and measurements systems commonly used today. Theoretical discussion will be strongly supported by practical work, with hands-on testing of a variety of sensors to help better understand their capabilities and limitations. Examples from the state-of-the-art research in sensors and measurement systems (relevant particularly to us in robotics) will be provided, including by guest lectures from academia and industry.

Upon completion of this module, a student should be:
- Familiar with various types of sensors (e.g., temperature, pressure, inertia, radar, moisture).
- Able to demonstrate fundamental knowledge regarding sensing principles, interfacing, and limitations.
- Aware of the challenges that noise presents to sensor systems, and be able to apply widely used signal processing techniques to mitigate its impact on system performance.
- Able to characterise sensor performance in terms of common benchmarks (e.g., accuracy, precision, resolution).
- Able to perform common methods for sensor calibration.
