My main research interests focus on understanding the geochemical behavior of radionuclides and co-contaminants produced either at the front or back end of the nuclear fuel cycle in surface and subsurface environments. Until present, I have worked in projects that covered:
- mechanistic understanding of the interactions between anthropogenic complexing agents (EDTA, NTA, ISA, picolinic acid) and radionuclides (Tc, U, Th, Sr, Cs) and their effect on mobility in different solid phase systems (natural sand, silty loam soil).
- development of an ion exchange model to obtain a thermodynamic database describing the sorption of trace elements (U and Ra) on clays (kaolinite) in the presence of major ions.
- determination of rates and mechanisms of uranyl oxyhydroxide and phosphate minerals dissolution under a flow-through porewater regime, and study the effect of dissolved carbonate concentration on dissolution.
- characterisation of nuclear fuel particles from contaminated soils and sediments of Chernobyl's and Fukushima's exclusion zones.

In order to produce successful research with high quality understanding, and due to my analytical chemistry background, my research always features a wide range of analytical, radioanalytical and spectroscopic techniques, and when necessary I have developed and optimized the methodology. Among these techniques, I am proficient with ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, TOC, UV-Vis spectrometry, gamma spectrometry, as well as solid phase characterization techniques such particle size, BET surface area, autoradiography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), micro X-ray fluorescence (µXRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at synchrotron light source facilities. Moreover, I use chemical, geochemical and reactive transport calculations and modelling (HYDRA/Medusa, Visual MINTEQ, PHREEQC, CrunchFlow) to support experimental work and gain further mechanistical understanding.

Recently, I have also been involved in the method development and analyses of plasma's seleno proteins and aminoacids by HPLC--ICP-MS to study the effect of different dietary selenium sources on the growth and health of fast-growing pigs in the Norwegian porcine industry.
