I am a PhD Candidate doing research on Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender and Critical Security Studies.

My current project is 'Narratives of Insecurity from the margins. A study of everyday gendered experiences and practices of (in)security in El Salvador.'

In my research, I am analyzing (intersectional) gendered dynamics of (in)security in El Salvador (narrative and practice) and the everyday experiences from women in the margins (young women, transwomen, and ciswomen sex workers). The intention is to put in perspective the androcentric and heteronormative assumptions of (in)security in this country and to challenge its normative approach, re-thinking the ‘other’ and expanding the understanding of ‘lives that matter.’ In other words, an attempt to bring different voices –queer and non-normative- to the construction of ‘security’ and opening up the notion of ‘lives/bodies that matter.’

This research is part of the ICT4COP project 'Community-Based Policing and Post-Conflict Police Reform. A Horizon 2020 Collaborative Partner Research Project.

    Re-defining (In)Security and Community-Based Policing after Reconciliation
This PhD project is a qualitative theoretical and empirical comparative study about marginalized women’s experiences of war and their empowerment in post conflict context, to understand gender imbalance of power and redefinition of (in)security through reconciliation processes and Community-Based Policing (COP) in El Salvador and Colombia.
