I am a PhD Candidate at the Department of Biosciences. With an academic background in animal breeding and aquaculture, I have studied the contribution of bioinformatic methods into further uncovering and understanding the Atlantic salmon genome. For my PhD project I will be employing such methods to delve deeper into the life history of domesticated Atlantic salmon, studying the evolutionary and functional impacts of structural variation.

Given the significance and active role of structural variation, I seek to understand how these genetic elements have contributed to adaptive evolution for Atlantic Salmon as well as how they are linked with expression of traits important in modern aquaculture.

Education:

Thesis “Assessing the Effects of the New Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Genome Assembly on Imputation Accuracy” ( available here )

MSc Animal Breeding and Genetics 6. 2021– Department of Animal Breeding and Aquaculture. Norwegian University of Life sciences

Thesis “Detection of polymorphisms in Acetyl - CoA - Acyltransferase 1 (ACAA1) and Growth Hormone Receptor (GHR) genes in Greek sheep breeds”

BS Animal production technology 9. 2018 - Department of Animal production. Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki

SalmoSV: Unveiling the evolutionary and functional impact of genomic structural variants of Atlantic salmon
The objective of this project is to reveal which and how genomic structural variants have driven adaptive evolution with the functional advantage in domesticated Atlantic salmon.
