My research focuses on using machine learning, deep learning and multivariate statistical techniques primarily in medical diagnostics. We develop and test methods for classifying images and image pixels/voxels into categories based on specific properties. Applications related to medical diagnostics include developing treatment outcome prediction models for cancer patients using pre-treatment medical images. Such models can help doctors to identify patients who will respond poorly to treatment at a very early stage, and hence tailor treatment for a patient´s needs. We are also working on methods for automatic tumour delineation and detection of tumour regions linked to poor prognosis. Other applications relate to methods for quantifying plant leaf injury caused by, for example, air pollution or disease. I currently teach general physics (thermal physics & electromagnetism) and environmental physics (radiation physics & climate physics). I am also involved in study programme administration and student supervision.
