Is there someone you think deserves recognition for excellent teaching within the natural sciences and/or medicine? The deadline is 8 October 2025 at NMBU for proposing candidates for the Olav Thon Foundation's prize for excellence in teaching within the natural sciences and medicine 2024.
About the Prize
The Olav Thon Foundation was established in 2013. The foundation can provide support in the form of personal prizes for excellent teaching that takes place at Norwegian educational institutions. Please see the announcement on the Olav Thon Foundation's website (text in Norwegian). Up to 10 prizes may be awarded in 2026. Each prize amounts to NOK 500,000. The prize is personal.
How to Nominate
Serving professors or associate professors in medicine and/or the natural sciences/mathematics can propose candidates for the prize. Students must also support the proposal, either by a) being among the proposers or b) having the institution's student organizations/student associations independently formulate proposals in collaboration with serving professors/associate professors. We recommend that you contact your faculty/the Student Board when preparing the proposal. Please see the announcement for how the proposal should be formulated. Please also find information on the process below:
- Wednesday 8 October 2025: Deadline for the faculty/the Student Board to submit names of individuals to propose for the prize.
- Thursday 9 October – Friday 10 October 2025: The Department of Academic Affairs will write a cover letter with the university leadership's proposals.
- Tuesday 14 October 2025: Deadline for the faculty/the Student Board to submit final proposals to the Department of Academic Affairs.
- Wednesday 15 October 2025: Deadline for the Department of Academic Affairs to send NMBU's proposals to the Olav Thon Foundation.
Please note: The foundation's board has decided that it must be kept strictly confidential who is being proposed for a prize.
