About the project

Background

Unsustainable development threatens global food security. Bees, especially honeybees, are vital pollinators and essential for efficient crop production. However, bee populations are in alarming decline worldwide. Project BuzzFeed seeks to investigate and clarify the underlying causes of the decline of health in Norwegian populations of domesticated honeybee.

Goal

The goal for the project is to increase the understanding of the interactions between infections, nutrition, and immunocompetence in bees in Norway, with emphasis on changes in climate and land use.
The project will, amongst other, map the occurrence of pathogens in Norwegian honeybees from different regions selected on the basis of climate variables and access to different ecosystems.
