About the project

AdaptGrain is a pre-project that will investigate how existing field and variety trial data can be combined with climate projections and crop simulation models to improve knowledge of climate adaptation in Norwegian wheat production.

The project will analyse historical datasets from different growing environments to assess how Norwegian wheat varieties may respond to future climate conditions. The results will provide a scientific foundation for future research and the development of more resilient and sustainable cereal production systems in Norway.

  • Background

    Climate change is increasing the frequency of variable weather conditions, including temperature extremes, changing precipitation patterns, and more frequent extreme events, affecting cereal production in Norway. Although wheat is one of the country's most important food crops, knowledge of how current varieties will perform under future climate conditions remains limited. At the same time, valuable historical data from variety trials and field experiments remain underutilized. AdaptGrain will explore how these datasets can improve our understanding of climate adaptation and provide a foundation for future research on sustainable cereal production.

    • PThis project is funded by the Foundation for Research Levy on Agricultural Products / the Agricultural Agreement Research Fund (FFL/JA). The funding scheme is administered by the Norwegian Agriculture Agency (Landbruksdirektoratet).
