NMBU is now one of seven partner institutions of the Centre for Digital Life Norway – a national centre for transdisciplinary biotechnology research, education and innovation.
The Centre for Digital Life Norway (DLN) aims to transform Norwegian biotechnology research and education to increase innovation and value creation for society. The centre has affiliated research projects all over the country.
Associate professor Phil Pope has been appointed as NMBU’s representative in the centre’s expert task force.
"The global challenges we face today require us to meet, interact and innovate across traditional disciplines and established structures. It's a key priority for NMBU to contribute to this kind of interdisciplinary problem-solving, and Centre for Digital Life Norway shares this ambition and approach.
"NMBU is involved in several exciting research projects on everything from sustainable feed utilization to circular economy and brain health funded by DLN. When experts collaborate across research disciplines it often makes for stronger results and more innovative solutions, says NMBU's prorector for research and innovation, Siri Fjellheim.
NMBU involved in five research projects under DLN: DigiSal, EcoGene and OXYMOD, DigiBrain and dCod.
The centre is run by a competence hub consisting of an operational management team with a centre manager and senior advisers employed at NTNU, UiO and UiB and an expert task force with scientific representatives.
The members of the expert task force contribute to the centre's work as part of their job at the partner institutions. An important task of the expert task force is to anchor the activities of the centre their institution. The centre also has a group of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows which is a resource for the competence hub.

The centre also runs a research school.
Established in 2016, DNL is funded by the Research Council of Norway through the strategic initiative ‘Digital Life – convergence for innovation’. The centre is now in its second funding period (DLN 2.0) with seven partner institutions
