FAQ about StudentWeb and register for the semester

  • What is StudentWeb?

    You register for the semester and pay the semester fee in StudentWeb. This must be done at the beginning of each semester.

    The StudentWeb is also where you administer your education plan and your courses, find exam dates and what room the exam will be in, as well as your exam results. You use StudentWeb to update your semester address when it changes, and to register for lectures and exams or to cancel courses.

    Once you have completed your registration for the semester you will have access to the courses in Canvas (your digital course room).

  • How do I log in to Studentweb?

    Prior to accessing Studentweb you have to activate your NMBU user account.

    When your have activated your user account you can log in to Studentweb. You need to log in via FEIDE. Select the 'school or work account' with your NMBU email address and the password you set when you activated the account.

  • How do I register for the semester?

    Click Start Registration to complete the five-step process:

    1) Rights and Obligations

    Read through NMBU's rules and regulations and check the box to confirm that you have read and accepted these. Read through NMBU's information on cheating and plagiarism and how to avoid this, and then check the box to confirm that you acknowledge the information. Click next to proceed.

    2) Study Plan

    (Incoming exchange students may skip this step)

    Review your detailed education plan for each semester of studies. All obligatory coursework should already be listed, but elective coursework may not be listed. You can add elective courses in this step. As a general rule, one academic year of studies is equivalent to 60 study points, alternatively 30 study points per semester. If your education plan is incomplete, you must nevertheless confirm the education plan and contact your study coordinator later for clarifications, changes and/or additions. Click next to proceed.

    3) Status and Overview

    (Incoming exchange students may skip this step)

    Review the summary of completed and remaining coursework. Reminders for obligatory coursework will be noted. Click next to proceed.

    4) Profile

    Enter your local postal address. If you live on campus, use the postal address listed on your SiÅs welcome letter.

    Enter emergency contact information. Include name, type of relationship, telephone number and email address if possible. 

    You do not need to insert the 4-digit PIN, however, you should select one of the libraries to be able to complete to the registration.

    5) Confirmation

    This is the final step in the semester registration process. Review the summary of course registration for the semester and the assessment form.

    The semester registration process is complete when you have completed the five steps above AND you have paid the semester fee.

    To navigate in StudentWeb, you must use the buttons within the StudentWeb pages (do not use the forward/back buttons in your browser).

  • How do I register or withdraw from courses and exams/assessment?

    Register

    (Incoming exchange students do not have an education plan in the same way as programme students. Your contact person for this is international@nmbu.no)

    Make sure that your individual education plan is correct. When your approve your individual education plan you will automatically be registered for the compulsory courses that are in your plan for that semester. NB: Please make sure that you are also registered for your exams.

    Remember that you must complete your semester registration and pay the semester fee within the deadline for take your exam. All deadlines are listed in the Academic Calendar.

    Your responsibility

    You are responsible for making sure that you have registered to your courses. Find the course you have been registered for in the top menu item: 'My active courses' in StudentWeb.

    Extra courses and register for re-examination /'konte'

    • Select 'active courses'
    • Look up the applicable course
    • Select the course and follow any further instructions 

    Registration deadlines for courses and exams:

    • Registration deadline for August block: First Wednesday in August block
    • Registration deadline for Autumn parallel: 15 September
    • Registration deadline for Autumn re-exam (konte): 1 October
    • Registration deadline for January block:  1 December
    • Registration deadline for Spring parallel: 1 February
    • Registration deadline for spring re-exam (konte): 1 March
    • Registration deadline for June block: 1 April

    Withdraw

    If you do not intend to take an exam, you must remember to withdraw courses and exams in the StudentWeb within the deadlines provided in the Academic Calendar.

    At NMBU a student may normally have three attempts to be assessed in the same course. If you do not show for an exam, it will count as one of your three attempts to be assessed in the course.

  • Do I have to pay the semester fee must also pay the Kopinor fee?

    All students must pay the semester fee and the Kopinor feee. (Incoming exchange students are exempt from the semester fee.)

    Please note that semester fee is a separate fee to be paid to the student welfare association and is a separate fee to the tuition fee applicable for international students.

    All students who pay the semester fee must also pay the Kopinor fee on the same invoice.

    Payment information can be found on the Student Web. All students must generate the invoice from the Student Web in the beginning of each semester, from the top menu item "Payments". Remember that there is a new KID number every semester. Students who do not yet have a Norwegian bank account may pay at SiÅs or the campus book shop.

    Deadlines: 

    Autumn semester: 15 September
    Spring semester: 1 February

    Bilateral and Erasmus+ exchange students

    Bilateral and Erasmus+ exchange students are exempt from paying the semester fee. Questions can be sent to international@nmbu.no

    Download the semester ID app (studentbevis) to show proof of payment, also exchange students who are exempt from paying.

    Once you have registered for the semester and paid the semester fee and the Kopinor fee, you can apply for and receive support from Lånekassen.

    If you are studying at another university in Norway and have paid the semester fee there, you must send documentation of the payment to sit@nmbu.no to have this registered in our systems. This has to be done manually. Valid documentation: a screenshot of the digital student ID, or a receipt from the bank that shows your name, amount and to whom the payment was made. A picture of the student web or other institution invoice is not valid documentation.

    PhD candidates do not pay the semester fee. Exceptions are those who receive funding from the Government's loan fund for education (in accordance with the rules in the sixth part of the regulations in the Act on educational support for pupils and students, through Norad or Foreign Ministry-funded programmes). They can choose to pay semester fees.

  • How do I make changes in my education plan in the Student web?

    If you want to add more courses to your education plan, select Studies from the top menu and Show education plan.

    For some study programmes, an option to move courses to a later semester is available.

    During the first semesters, you will most likely receive warnings on Studentweb telling you that you haven`t registered all courses in your plan yet. The alerts will disappear as and when you register courses into your education plan.

    You may at any time check the courses you have been registered to in the top menu item “My active courses”. Courses that have been registered will show with two checked boxes in green, one for the lectures and one for the exams.

    If any of the mandatory courses do not show in “My active courses” you are yourself responsible for registering the courses, this also applies to the courses that have not been set in your education plan.

    You may withdraw from lectures and exams in “My active courses”. You may also withdraw courses from the education plan.

    Registering and withdrawing courses must be completed within the deadlines provided in the Academic calendar.

  • May I continue to take courses after completed studies?

    When you complete your degree, this will end your study right. This means that if you have registered for courses that have lectures and exams after the date of completion, you must have a new study right, or apply for "deferred award of diploma" in order to take the courses.

    Single course study right

    The general entrance requirements for a single course study right is the General Study Skills (Generell studiekompetanse), which is acquired in the Norwegian education system. This includes Norwegian language.

    Application period for single course:
    Autumn semester: 1 July - 1 September (apply before 1 August if you are applying for intensive courses in the August block).

    Spring, including the June block: 15 October - 15 January (apply before 15 November if you are applying for intensive courses in the January block).

  • Should I defer the award of diplomas?

    If you complete your degree in May and plan to take courses in June, you should apply for deferred award of diploma. If the courses are in the autumn semester you may apply for single course study right during the application period. This study right is granted for 6 months at a time. Send your request for "deferred award of diplomas" to vitnemal@nmbu.no
