Noragric's Tor A. Benjaminsen and Siri Eriksen are selected to work on the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s next assessment report.

The Norwegian Environment Agency is the national hub of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). One of its tasks is to coordinate the process of nominating authors and reviewers for their comprehensive assessment of climate change – the IPCC Assessment Reports.

IPCC-selected experts

The IPCC Bureau has assessed the nominations, which come from across the globe, to select the author team for the major assessment report. The Bureau consists of 34 experts from the same number of countries.

More themes in the new report

The Sixth Assessment Report, to be published in 2021-2022, will address more issues on climate change than the previous IPCC Assessment Report (for which Eriksen was also selected to work on), bringing a need for different types of specialist expertise. Whilst the vast majority of the selected experts are climate scientists, candidates with expertise in areas such as energy, forestry and reindeer husbandry have also been selected (miljodirektoratet.no).

Selected experts from NMBU

Tor Arve Benjaminsen is a Professor at the Department of International Environment and Development Studies, Noragric. His main focus is on environmental change and its governance within a broad and critical political ecology perspective.

Siri Eriksen is also a Professor at the Department of International Environment and Development Studies. She is a prominent scholar within the field of climate change, with a particular focus on human vulnerability to climatic extremes, such as droughts and floods.
