Speaker: Professor Elisabeth Cooper
About: Elisabeth Cooper was nominated by students and staff at MINA. She is a professor of plant ecology in UiT-The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. She is interested in the adaptations plants have to live in the North, with its short cool summers and long dark winters. She has been carrying out experimental and observational ecological research on Svalbard since 1991. This talk focuses on the role of snow in determining plant growth and phenology, and the interactions between different parts of the ecosystems. She presents data from an ongoing experiment using snowfences, established in 2006..
