Internship BIOVIT

In an internship you work in a company with tasks related to your studies. An internship can give you relevant work experience, broaden your network, strengthen your practical skills, and give you important experience from outside the university.

It is possible to do an internship during all periods of the academic year. If the internship involves travel, it is easiest to do it in the block periods or during the summer vacation.

You can work intensively over a few weeks in a block period or one day a week over a longer period.

  • For students
    1. Find a relevant company
    2. Contact the company
    3. Find an academic supervisor at the Faculty of Biosciences (BIOVIT)
    4. Fill out an agreement/contract with BIOVIT/academic supervisor and the company/contact person, where the expected learning outcome and results are described
    5. Hand in the agreement/contract to the study advisor, who will register you for the internship course
    6. Create a suggestion for relevant syllabus literature together with the academic supervisor
    7. Do the internship, learn the syllabus, and work on a reflection report
    8. Hand in and present the reflection report in the semester where you are registered for internship

The number of credits (ECTS) you get from doing an internship varies, so you also need to determine the scope of your internship:

    • 125 hours corresponds to 5 ECTS
    • 250 hours corresponds to 10 ECTS
    • 375 hours corresponds to 15 ECTS

You will spend approx. 2/3 of the time in the company/research institution and 1/3 of the time working on the reflection report and presentation.

At the Faculty of Biosciences we have several internship courses depending on your field of interest:

  • For companies and institutions

    What is an internship?

An internship is a limited period in which a student at NMBU works at a company or in an institution on an agreed and relevant issue or project.

    What does the company get?

The company/institution benefits from the student's commitment, manpower, knowledge and input, and gets to meet potential future employees.

    What is required?

The student needs a contact person in the company/institution during the agreed internship period. The contact person will, in collaboration with the student and their academic supervisor at NMBU, define the work tasks and goal of the internship. A contract must be drawn up between the company/institution, NMBU and the student before the internship period starts. The agreement is sent to the study advisors at BIOVIT before confirmation is granted. If the stay in the company entails access to confidential information, a declaration of confidentiality should also be signed.

    Financial aspects

The student receives credits in lieu of payment for the agreed working hours and workload of the internship. Many students also choose to combine internships with summer jobs. The company/institution must pay for any necessary internal training. For companies/institutions with a location far away from the student's home and/or place of study, the company/institution can also pay for accommodation and travel for the student if the work requires this during the agreed work period.

We wish to host students for internship, what do we do now?

Contact the study advisors at BIOVIT, and they will attempt to put you in contact with students.
