About this course

The course provides a comprehensive and advanced understanding of veterinary legislation, the professional role, and societal responsibilities. This includes legislation related to, for example, infectious diseases and zoonoses, notification requirements, disease control, and animal welfare. The course also addresses the veterinarian’s role within the legal system and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority’s administration, application and enforcement of legislation, including the use of regulatory measures as a competent authority.

KnowledgeThe student:

  • has in-depth knowledge of legislation regulating veterinary practice and professional responsibilities
  • has in-depth knowledge of legislation regulating animal welfare and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority’s administration, application and enforcement of this legislation, including the use of regulatory measures as a competent authority
  • is familiar with legislation governing the management of infectious diseases and zoonoses
  • is familiar with contingency procedures and notification requirements
  • is familiar with the veterinarian’s role within the legal system
  • has a thorough understanding of the veterinarian’s professional role and societal responsibilities
  • has good knowledge of professional ethical principles

    Rules:

    In case of absence from mandatory activities, an alternative arrangement may be offered if the absence is valid and of limited extent. In cases of extensive or invalid absence, the course must be retaken the next time it is offered. It is at the discretion of the course coordinator to determine whether an alternative arrangement can be provided based on academic considerations.
