VANN220 Water Resources and Water Supply
About this course
The course is not offered in the spring of 2027.
The course focuses on water as a resource and a knowledge-based management of this resource. It covers water types, water quality, protection of water bodies and methods for treating drinking water. It also includes classification of environmental quality in freshwater, chemical and biological quality requirements, selection of water supply sources, and legislation related to water supply and water management. Students will collaborate in groups on a relevant topic and present this in plenary. The course finalizes with a field trip to a waterworks.
Learning outcome
After completing the exam, the student should have the following learning outcomes
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the importance of water as a resource and management of water resources.
Explain various drinking water sources, measures in the catchment area and water treatment in accordance with the Drinking Water Regulations.
Knowledge of water types, environmental objectives and classification of water quality in accordance with the Water Framework Directive (WFD).
Skills:
Assess the link between water quality and pollution sources in watercourses.
Apply concepts and find information about conditions that affect water quality and the condition of water and watercourses.
General competence:
Present knowledge about the central role of water resources for all life and the importance of good water quality.
