About this course
Introduction to Norwegian animal production
August block (5 credits): The course starts in August with a two-three day mandatory excursion to various livestock producers and agriculture. A one-day trip to a research station that conducts experiments in marine ecology and aquaculture is also mandatory. A brief introduction and demonstration of our most important forage crops and grains will be presented.
We will visit the Animal Research Centre and get an introduction to the research work with ruminants, pigs, horse, fur animals and fish.
We will try to get a visit to local animal producers that can offer practical training in animal husbandry and management.
The course will include dedicated lecturers from important players in the agricultural industry and public institutions related to agriculture.
In groups, students shall make a presentation /poster of a given topic concerning Norwegian animal production or aquaculture.
Learning outcome
- The students will vist farms and agricultural and aquaculture related companies. They wil be given presentations from relevant companies and institutions for future work opportunities. The students will make reports from visits and make presentations on given topics.
