About this course

The course will give a refresher on central topics in mathematics necessary to succeed in ECN102.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Have basic arithmetic skills
  • Have basic knowledge of topics within algebra
  • Have basic knowledge of equations and functions with one and two variables

Skills:

  • Be able to calculate percentages and fractions
  • Be able to solve equations with one and two unknowns
  • Be able to solve quadratic equations
  • Be able to interpret word problems

General competence:

  • Be able to work independently
  • Learning activities
    Flipped classroom. Pre-recorded videos, and a large selection of relevant problems and solutions will be available through Canvas. There will be seminars with TAs available for support.
  • Teaching support
    Pre-recorded videos and group work.
  • Prerequisites
    One year of mathematics from upper secondary school. T- or P-mathematics.
  • Assessment method
    ECN001 has no exam. The grade passed is awarded everyone who completes the final quiz in Canvas.

  • Notes
    This course gives no credits, but is an introduction to ECN102 Introduction to Mathematics for Economists.
