About this course

The course includes a part that deals with the basic structure and function of plants and a developmental physiological part about plants` responses to environmental factors. The experimental nature of the field is illustrated in practical laboratory experiments where the students themselves work with themes from the various course sections and receive training in report writing.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The course provides an introduction to plant structure and basic knowledge on how plant works and are affected by environmental factors.

Skills:

The students receive training in conducting practical experiments and presenting and discussing experimental results, applying key concepts and methods and collaborating in groups.

General competence:

The students will gain basic knowledge of key topics in plant physiology and an understanding of plant structure and function.

  • Learning activities

    The course includes lectures and student-active laboratory work with report writing. Exercise tasks within central themes are also available for self-study. Repetition/discussion lessons are offered.

  • Teaching support

    Lab teachers give feedback on the lab reports that the students write from the laboratory exercises. Central themes are discussed in repetition/discussion lessons. Exercises for the various topics in the course have been prepared.

  • Assessment method

    Written campus exam 3 hours in the exam period, A-F. The written exam counts 100% towards the grade.

  • About use of AI

    Written exam on campus: K1 - No use of AI.

    Mandatory laboratory reports: K2 - Specified use of AI

    AI can be used to improve the language in the mandatory laboratory reports and help gather theoretical bakcground information for these reports, but the students must verify this information themselves and write in their own words.

    The examiner contributes with discussion of the examination tasks and evaluation of these.

  • Mandatory activity

    Approved laboratory course (requires approved participation and approved reports).

  • Notes

    In order to be able to plan the laboratory course as well as possible, it is important that students are strongly encouraged to register for the course as early as possible.

  • Teaching hours

    Lectures: 26 hours. Laboratory course: 12 hours. In addition, repetition/discussion classes are given.
