Professor

  • Soil and Water Science Section

I have been employed at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) since 2010, with responsibility for hydrology. My research has focused on the interaction between processes in soil and water, based on the water balance. I use various mathematical and statistical methods such as inverse modeling, geostatistics, stochastic simulation, and numerical modeling. Currently, my research is centered around topics like lake circulation, wind field modeling, short-term precipitation analysis, and estimating sediment thickness and bedrock morphology.

Before joining NMBU, I worked at the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy (NIBIO), did a Post Doc at the University of Oslo, I was at the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), and I have also worked as a Geo-engineer at Saga Petroleum.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of supervising numerous students pursuing BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in hydrology and related fields, including applied mathematics and data science. I have also been involved in research and teaching collaborations, mainly in mathematics with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Norway and with the University of Hawassa in Ethiopia.

I have participated in association work like the Norwegian Hydrological Council (NHR); the Oslo Geophysical Association (OGF); and the Norwegian branch of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH). I also chaired the 3rd International Conference on modeling hydrology and land surface processes for NHR in 2015.  I conducted research visits at INRAE/IRSTEA in Lyon, France, in 2016 and 2017, and was a visiting scholar at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University of California, in 1999.
