Knut Omholt

Associate Professor

  • Department of Educational Science

My professional background consists of a Ph.D. degree in social sciences, six years of education in performing arts and visual arts, and a diploma in art therapy. My commitment is to use art-based methods in the development of people. I work with this in three fields - as an educator, art therapist and storyteller:

As an educator, I teach in university pedagogy, have developed unique courses in personal development for students, written a textbook on people, organization and management, published articles, and received the Student Award as best lecturer and the Norwegian University of Agricultural Sciences Award for pedagogical activity.

As an art therapist, I use artistic media to allow people to come into conversation with parts of themselves that they otherwise do not get to know; I have described my work in articles and shown it at workshops at international conferences. I am a member of the European Federation of Art Therapy.

As a storyteller, I work with mythical stories and their messages in relation to individual and cultural challenges today; I have performed on a number of different stages, written a book and articles about drawing inspiration from fairy tales to be a creative person, and am considered for associate professor competence in storytelling.

I also explore social issues through drawing and text and have had exhibitions, among others, in the Norwegian BioArt Arena (NOBA).
