My research focuses on the biological effects of chronic ionizing radiation exposure. Using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans, I investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms that determine sensitivity to radiation of key biological processes. My work aims to clarify how radiation impacts fertility, germ line development, and genome stability under long-term exposure. I use techniques such as fluorescent and confocal microscopy to investigate relevant cellular processes, RNA interference for functional analysis of specific genes, and RNA sequencing to underlying transcriptomic mechanisms. By generating fundamental insights, this research supports strategies to predict ecological risks from both naturally occurring and anthropogenic radioactive materials—helping protect ecosystems and environmental health worldwide.
