The course is mainly based on scientific papers presented by the students themselves. The teachers give introductory lectures to each topic. Understanding and critical reading of scientific papers is an important part of the course. The conclusions in the different papers are placed within a broader ecological context.
Learning outcome:
After completing the course the student should have gained the following qualifications:
Knowledge: The student will have in depth knowledge of central topics in ecological entomology.
Skills: The student should acquire a critical attitude towards published results in ecological entomology. They should be familiar with reading, understanding and presenting scientific papers within ecological entomology and be able to discuss the results within a broader ecological context.
General competence: The student should be confidential with core subjects within insect ecology, be able to read scientific papers within these subjects and put this knowledge into a broader context.
Learning activities:
The course is based on students presentations of scientific papers (oral and by use of PowerPoint) with succeeding discussions. The student will receive written feedback on their presentations. Some briefings on selected topics will be given by the teachers. All students have to read the papers prior to the seminars and prepare questions for the discussion.
