Course contents:
Machines and equipment for various processing techniques. Wood and water, dimension stability. Dynamic transport of water in wood. Water content and temperature. Wood protection - modification, impregnation, surface treatment and gluing. Planning of production and logistics. Sawing simulation, lumber recovery and lumber yield. Production economy, cost allocation and profitability analysis.

Learning activities:
Lectures, exercises, more and less extensive written assignments plus excursions. The exercises are used to concretise the theoretical material. The students present some of the papers in class.

Recommended prerequisites:
STAT100
Mandatory activity:
All written assignments. Participation in minimum 3/4 of the exercises and excursions is required to sit for the examination.
Assessment:
Written exam: 3 hours.
Nominal workload:
Lectures and exercises 50 hrs + 5 hrs. Students own effort in preparing exercises and excursions together with assignments and reports: approx. 240 hrs.
