The main part of the course is an individual assignment where the student shall plan an industrial production plant. Examples of such plants are oil refinery, industrial production of bioethanol, industrial cleaning of gases, district heating systems, etc. In addition some unit operation will be described, particularly units that are relevant for the assignment. The course will contain a separat part in energy and prosess simulation using Aspen Plus and another separte part in prosesscontrol. If practical, there will be a visit to a relevant industrial plant.
The course will give the student knowledge on how to put together several unit operations into a production unit. Dimentioning the different units so that they are adapted to each other is central. Additionally the students will gain knowledge in how to simulate a production unit.
The teaching is a combination of lectures/seminars, self-study, group work and exercises. Problem-based learning (PBL) is central. The main part of the course is an assignment where the student determines what the solution looks like. The project report will be in a specified format.
The teacher/s is/are available for extra support and advice during office hours, and can also be reached by telephone and e-mail.
The syllabus is handed out when the course starts.
