Course contents:
The subject will have a focus on methodology for the implementation of the life-cycle assessment of food production, packaging, waste management, energy production as well as other relevant products, in which the students will learn how to practice all the main elements in the methodology to this are described in the textbook and ISO standards. The focus will also be on applying the methodology to identify how environmental and resource information can be used for strategic development in businesses; to product improvement and to marketing.
Learning outcome:
Kunnskapsmål: The student shall aquire basic skills and understanding of: Enviromental and resrouce challenges from the value chain of food products, packaging and other relevant goods and services, With focus on issues important for the Norwegian society and companies.
Skills: The student shall learn basic skills in calculating environmental impacts and resource use from processes and products. The student shall have a basic introduction to the methodology used in life cycle assessment and envrionmental Product declarations.
Learning activities:
Lectures/workshop, one obligatoric exercise and one obligatoric term paper
Teaching support:
The students' learning is supported by the teachers\' supervision during office hours.
Syllabus:
Chapters in text books, papers and data program. Overview will be given at semster start.
Prerequisites:
FORN220, TBA210, TIP200, THT291 or THT271.
Recommended prerequisites:
Basic knowlegde in environmental and resource sciences.
Mandatory activity:
None except the grading deliveries.
Assessment:
Exercise report counts 20 %, project report counts 50 % and multiple choice exam counts 30 %. All of the evaluated elements in the course must be passed to pass the course.
Nominal workload:
125 hours.
Entrance requirements:
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
Type of course:
Two hours of lectures every second week and four hours of lectures/seminar every second week
Examiner:
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
