About this course

Hydraulics. Irrigation techniques for park- and green areas. Draining techniques. Risk of erosion and methods for protection. Geomechanics. Groundwater. Sustainable urban drainage and storm water management. Urban hydrology. Conventional versus sustainable handling of storm water, storm water runoff in cities related to area planning, storm water pollution, infiltration, dimensioning, equipment for and management of dams, open water ways and canals for storm water runoff.

Learning outcome

Upon completion the students shall have knowledge of the management of water in urban and green areas. They shall be able to use practical methods for planning and dimensioning solutions for management of water.
  • Lectures, excursion, term paper. Problem solving exercises.
  • Teachers and teaching assistants will be available for guidance during lectures and problem solving sessions.
  • Term paper (group work) counts for 25 % and written examination (3 hours) counts for 75 %.
  • The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
  • Term paper with oral presentation (term paper counts for 25 % of the final grade).
  • Lectures: ca. 50 hours. Excursion. Exercises.
  • 5 ECTS credit reduction with THT261.
