Learning outcome

In general the studens should learn:

Critically reading of international primary publications, as well as discuss the actual topics with other students and teachers

To prepare and present a talk or poster in an international forum, as well as participate in discussions on own and others projects.

  • Learning activities

    Reading and discussion of research articles and review articles ahead of a one-week intensive course. This takes place on Teams or Zoom, guided by the course's teachers. Each student must present a minimum of 2 articles.

    Preparation of an oral presentation or a poster.

    The one week intensive course will contain:

    Lectures given by and discussions led by the invited international experts and the Nordic teachers.

    Student presentations: Students will make an oral or poster presentation based preferably on their own research projects and related to the course theme.

    Group Discussions are scheduled for the evening to enable the students review what they have learned during the day. Additional topics for these discussions include career opportunities in plant pathology, in a regional, Nordic, European, or global context.

  • Teaching support

    Literature seminars with teachers present. Guidance in poster and oral presentations. Intensive course with several international and Nordic teachers available during one full week.

  • Syllabus

    Approximately 30- 50 reseach papers are read and discussed by the students before the intensive course.

  • Prerequisites

    Master degree that qualifies for enrollment as a PhD student in Plant Pathology. Basic courses in Plant Pathology and Microbiology.

  • Recommended prerequisites

    The theme for the course varies from year to year. Therfore, the recommended background knowledge will also vary.

  • Assessment method

    Contribution and performance in discussions are assessed by Nordic teachers. Content and presentastion of poster or oral presentation are assessed by a group of international and Nordic teachers.

  • About use of AI

    K2 - Specific use of AI permitted, i.e. AI can be used for idea generation in literature presentations and group work. Use of AI should be described with a brief explanation of which programs have been used and how the program has been used.

  • Examiner scheme

    The team of nordic and international teachers assess the students' presentations and performance.

  • Mandatory activity

    Active participation in the literatur seminar in advance as well as the intensive course. Abstract and presentation of lecture or poster.

  • Notes

    The topic for the PhD course in Plant Pathology varies from year to year. For PhD students it is therfor possible to get credits for participation in several of these courses.

    Normally the topica alternate between beeing directed towards populations/crops/organisms (plants and pathogens) one year, and a molecular/cellular aspecter the other year.

  • Teaching hours

    5 full days of intensive course. 50 hours: Lectures, discussions, exercises, student presentations, guidet tour related to the course topic. Preparation for the course: Literature seminar before the intensive course: 40 hours. Preparation of the students own presentation: 35 hours.

    PhD students in Plant Pathology at NOVA universities.
