The course will give an overview of fruit and berry productions (species, cultivars and areas) and morphology in addition to plant growth, adaption to climate, pollination and fruit setting. Soil and nutritive requirements will be reviewed as well as cropping, crop variety and regulation and harvesting methods. General pre- and postharvest quality with different factors affecting quality, in addition to postharvest physiology (respiration, transpiration, effect of temperature, atmospheric conditions and the effect of ethylene).
- Have knowledge of fruit trees and berry plants, and their products, and an understanding on how they react to climate and various cultural measures.
- Have knowledge of fields, varieties, cultivation as well as cultural measures and maintenance of fruit and berry crops to ensure a stable and good crop over several years.
- Have knowledge of fruit quality throughout the value chain from field cultivation to handling and storage after harvest.
- Have theoretical skills on various fruit and berry productions, plant growth and development, post-harvest and produce quality.
- Be able to prepare for and perform simple laboratory experiments and evaluate and discuss the results.
- Be able to present a professional topic in a suitable forum
- Be able to apply professional knowledge and relevant results from research work, obtain, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter, shed light on an issue and present this using relevant professional tools.
The students will attend lectures, field- and laboratory practices and field trips. During the semester, each student will present a topic related to fruit and berry production.
