This course aims at guiding students to a post-graduate level in tropical ecology natural resource management. The course is a combination of general tropical ecology and applied dimensions, focusing on management and conservation issues. The course benefits from a wide range of expert contributions and examples from a wide variety of tropical biomes. The students, acting as a participatory component via presentations and discussions, form an integral part of the course. One important part of the course is the development of a term paper focusing on a topic relevant for the course content.
The students will have advanced knowledge about tropical ecosystems and management.
The stduents will be able to use aquired ecological knowledge in managment of tropical ecosystems and be able to write scintific reports about these topics.
The students will be able to use ecological knowledge about tropical ecosystems in a managemnt context.
Lectures, seminars, semester assignment.
The candidate's learning is supported through academic supervision in the teacher's office hours.
An overview of the chapters and articles are provided in class. Some of the reading material will be provided during the lectures.
Participation in course seminars
Written exam, 3.5 hours, counts 3/5 of the grade. Term paper counts 2/5 of the grade. All of the evaluated elements in the course must be passed to pass the course.
Lectures: ca. 50 hours. Students own work with semester assignment writing, preparation for presentations, seminars, lectures and reading for exam: ca. 250 hours.
