This course starts in the autumn parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in the autumn parallel.
Course frequency: Annually. The course is offered on demand and if resources allow it.
First time: Study year 2009-2010
The most important parts of each topic are covered in lectures. The students are then given exercises on the same topics. The aims of the exercises are for students to understand methods and ideas, as well as to be able to apply the subject to relevant problems.
The students are to learn how to use mathematical ideas precisely. This is a necessary background for understanding mathematical analysis. After completing the course, students are to master:1) axiomatic description of the different number systems. 2) basic topological ideas such as metric spaces, completeness and compactness. 3) convergence and uniform convergence. 4) the Riemann integral and selected topics in functional analysis.
The teaching is given as lectures and seminars.

Theory (lectures and self-study): 150 hours. Discussion groups, calculation exercises, weekly practice exercises, preparations for exam: 150 hours.

Students who demand teaching in English must put this request at least two weeks before the teaching period starts.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate's exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
