Course contents:
Applications of the definite integral, areas, length of curves. Polar coordinates. Vector-valued functions, parameterised curves. Multivariable functions, linearization, gradient and directional derivatives, optimization, Lagrange-multipliers. Multiple integrals. integration techniques and applications of integrals. Line integrals. Surface integrals. Green's, Gauss' and Stoke's theorems. Simple programming of numerical computations of the integrals.
Learning outcome:
Students are to
- Acquire basic ideas and theorems of the theory.
- Master the standard methods for analysing and operating with scalar functions and vector functions in one or more variables.
- Be able to use this knowledge and these skills when solving simple applied problems.
Learning activities:
The teaching consists of lectures and calculation exercises.
Teaching support:
An assistant teacher is present during all the exercise lessons. The students can either contact the teacher in his office, by telephone or by e-mail.

MATH111, INF120 or INF100.

Written examination: 3.5 hours.

Theory: 130 hours. Exercises: 120 hours.

Type of course:
Lectures: 4 hours per week. Exercises: 2 hours per week.
Examiner:
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate's exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
