About this course

The course is structured on the basis of lectures and individual assignments. An overview is given of histories of garden art and landscape architecture and some theoretical discourses. In addition, information is provided on the rehabilitation of historical gardens.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: know the most important garden art historical style epochs and their characteristics. Show insight into relevant garden art historical issues, as well as issues related to the management and rehabilitation of historical gardens and landscapes. The student should have insight into theories and methods that are relevant to the history and theory of landscape architecture, as well as an overview of socially relevant academic issues and challenges in this area.

Skills: Assessing to subject matter and presenting it so that it highlights an issue in the art of garden and landscape architecture. The student should be able to analyze and assess place and task as contextual basis for identifying garden historical issues and challenges.

Competence: Discuss and present professional perspectives on garden art and landscape architecture in writing.

  • Teaching methods in the topic is literature studies, participation in lectures, discussions, presentations, writing- and sketching assignments and visits to relevant gardens and landscape historic areas.
