(NO=norsk, EN=Engelsk)
Limits of class size:
40 (KJM313 + KJM410).
Teaching exam periods:
This course starts in the Autumn parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in the Autumn parallel.
Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2003-2004
Preferential right:
PhD students
Course contents:
The course covers different types of mass spectrometers, and the interpretation of mass spectra. Various types of ionisitaion methods used for different types of analyses are also central.
Learning outcome:

The students will obtain both the practical and theoretical background for using mass spectrometry. They will be able to use mass spectrometry for identifying organic and biological compounds.

Candidates get familiar with the various techniques for filtration of ions in a mass spectrometer, such as quadrupoles, sector instruments, time of flights and ion traps.

Interpretation of mass spectra is a central topic in the course. Students will become familiar with the theory behind the different fragmentations of various compounds formed by different ionization techniques.
