Limits of class size:
12 (KJB320 + KJB420)
Teaching exam periods:
This course starts in the August block. This course has teaching in the August block + teaching/evaluation in the Autumn parallel.
Course frequency:
The course will be given in even years only.

NMBU works for an agreement for this course to alternate with an equivalent proteomics course at the University of Oslo.

First time: Study year 2007-2008
The course is reserved for PhD-students.
Sample preparation for MS- and LC-MS analysis, identification and quantification of proteins. It should be emphasized that this course requires the ability and willingness to work independently and meticulously with advanced biochemical methods. Students shall present one scientific article on a seminar. If necessary, this presentation must be given in English.
Theoretical and practical training in methods to study the proteome, enabling the student to use the methods independently in a research project. Mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, electrophoresis, bioinformatic analysis of large data sets.
Independent thesis within one of these areas.
Lectures. Laboratory exercises at a high level of independency, with journal. Writing of a small thesis. Oral presentation of a topic or an article.
Contact with teachers during lectures and exercises.
Compendium, lecture notes, laboratory notes.
Biochemistry equivalent to KJB210.
Skills in laboratory work beyond KJB201 level. Protein chemistry, KJB310. We emphasize that the course requires will and ability to work independently and precisely with advanced biochemical methodology.
Participation in all activities (August block and autumn parallel). Approved journal, report and presentation of topic or article.
Journal, presentation and thesis.
Lectures 16 hrs. Laboratory work 22 hrs. Presentation 6 hrs. Thesis 40 hrs. Self study 216 hrs.
Special requirements in Science
Reduction of credits:
KJB420 is an extended version of KJB320. Students with KJB320 get 5 credits for KJB420.
Type of course:
August block: Intensive course for two weeks, including 16 hrs of lectures, 22 hrs of laboratory work and an oral presentation (6 hrs).
Autumn parallel: Special exercise with report/thesis: 60 hrs.
Participation in all classes is mandatory.
The course is given in even years only.
An external examiner evaluates the course arrangements.
Internal examiners evaluates the laboratory journals and the presentations.
