The course includes lecture of soil analysis theory and how soil analysis is used in agriculture as a tool for fertilizer and liming recommendation. The following analysis is performed at the laboratory. Preparation of soil for chemical tests, soil density, dry matter and loss on ignition, grain size distribution, pH, easily available (plant available) potassium, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, determination of nitrate and ammonium, and determination of cupper as a micro nutrient.
Learning outcome: 1) Manage to sample soil, prepare soil and analyze soil samples for plant available nutrients. 2) Evaluate the best strategies for soil sampling and the best methods to be used for a given situation. 3) Evaluate uncertainties and quality of soil analysis results. 4) Evaluate soil analysis results as a tool for plant availability and as environmental potential.
The course is given as 50% lectures and 50% laboratory work by guidance of teacher and engineers.
JORD 230 or similar
Laboratory reports for all exercises have to be approved before the exam. Laboratory reports are group reports.
Laboratory reports count 50% and oral examination 50% of the course. Both is evaluated by marks A-F.
Special requirements in Science
Type of course:
26 h of lectures and 26 h of laboratory work. Lectures and laboratory work are concentrated to 4 h per day and week.
The teacher evaluates laboratory reports (group reports). External senor and the teacher evaluate oral examination.
