Course contents:
This subject provides knowledge about mathematical foundations for the analysis of algorithms, central algorithms and data structures, methods for the analysis of performance and the proof of correctness of such algorithms and data structures, as well as about key problem solving strategies. It also develops your ability fo apply and evaluate algorithms and data structures. The subject furthermore provides an introduction to parallel problem solving strageties, modern system architecture and principal concepts in data security.
Learning outcome:
Upon completion of this course you will be able to analyse the performance and correctness of algorithms and data structures, to evaluate which data structures are suitable for given purposes, and know essential problem solving strategies. You will know about key approaches to parallel solutions to problems, the basics of modern system architecture and concepts in data security.
Learning activities:
Course material is presented and discussed in lectures. In tutoring sessions you perform analyses under supervision. In a term paper, you perform and report an analysis on your own.

Guidance during tutoring sessions.

INF120 or comparable programming competence, preferably in Python.

MATH111 or a comparable calculus course.

Recommended prerequisites:
INF200, can be taken in parallel.
Mandatory activity:
Approved mandatory exercises. Details will be given at the beginning of the course.

250 hours: Lectures 13x4 hours = 52 hours, exercises under supervision 13x2 hours = 26 hours, work on mandatory activity 100 hours, self study 72 hours

Special requirements in Science.
Reduction of credits:
10 credits with INF220 taught before 2010.

The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the term paper task and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidat's exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
