Introduction to elementary programming for problem solving. We will use computers and modern software for learning elementary programming by considering numerical solutions of mathematical problems associated with the courses MATH100 and MATH111.
Elementary programming skills and insight into some fundamental principles for problem solving by programming and operation of computers including some numerical methods introduced in elementary mathematics courses.
Lectures, group work, computer lab exercises including elementary programming
Teaching assistants provide assistance during the computer labs.
Information about relevant literature will be given before the start of the course in the course room on Canvas.
Experience in using computers in daily life.
Matehmatics at the R1 level (or higher) in Norwegian high school.
Mandatory exercises (hand-ins). Requirements for approval of mandatory activity will be announced at the beginning of the term.
Written examination, 3 hours. A-F.
125 hours: 52 hours of classes (lectures and computer lab), 45 hours independent work on hand-ins, 16 hours self study, 12 hours exam preparation.
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
Type of course:
- Lectures: 2 hours per week for 13 weeks.
- Computer labs: 2 hours per week for 13 weeks.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
