This course starts in the autumn parallel. This course has teaching and evaluation in the autumn parallel.

- Introduction to elementary programming for problem solving (approx 2/3 of course)
- Binary number systems, Boolean logic and character codes (approx 1/6 of course)
- Basic principles and safety issues associated with handling of electronical information (approx 1/6 of course)
Insight into some fundamental principles for problem solving by programming and operation of computers.
Lectures, group work, computer lab exercises including elementary programming
Teaching assistants provide assistance during the computer labs.
Information about relevant literature will be given before the start of the course in the course room on Fronter.
Experience in using computers in daily life.
Mandatory exercises (hand-ins). Requirements for approval of mandatory activity will be announced at the beginning of the term.
Written examination, 3 hours.
150 hours: 52 hours of classes (lectures and computer lab), 60 hours independent work on hand-ins, 26 hours self study, 12 hours exam preparation.

The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
